Curtains drawn on IT Kerala 2002

Thiruvananthapuram, August 4, 2002- Kerala’s mega IT event came to a grand finale today at the Bhavani, Technopark. The last day of the event saw the culmination of the exhibition and the special seminar on IT enabling services in Education.

Ms Sarada Muraleetharan IAS, Director of Collegiate Education, chaired this session. Prof. S S Prabhu, Former Dean, IIT Kanpur, during his presentation said that global dissemination of IT in Education is the second renaissance in the history. He also said that today virtual reality has become as reality itself through education.

Dr Srivatsan, Director IITMK, announced that his institute would be soon formulating a Kerala Education Grid to promote e-education in order to maximize the quality of instruction in all colleges and other education centers of Kerala. “Development of content resource is very important for the success of this education grid” he said, “this project attempts to squarely take the challenge of appropriate use of IT and Internet in Education using a knowledge enabling and learner centric approach.”

Over one-lakh visitors attended the exhibition in the last four days of the event. The visitors comprised of people from the IT Industry, State Government officials, students from schools and colleges and general public. More than 70 companies had set up stalls at the exhibition and many of these exhibitors have been able to conduct successful business during the expo. Exciting schemes were organized by various companies to attract visitors to their exhibition centers.

The four-day IT spectacle concluded with a Valedictory address by His Excellency, Sri Sikander Bakht, Governor of Kerala. Sri. Bakht also laid the foundation for the second phase expansion scheme and honoured select IT companies for their excellent contribution towards the growth of IT in Kerala. Sri P K Kunhalikutty, Minister for IT, delivered the keynote address. Sri Vakkom Purushothaman, Hon’ble Speaker, Kerala Legislative Assembly, delivered the presidential address. Sri Kiran Karnik, President, NASSCOM, Sri. B V Jagadeesh, CEO, Netscaler and Sri. V Krishnamurthy, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Kerala commended the efforts in making IT Kerala 2002 a grand success.
